STRONGER EVERY DAY

The National Men's Health Gatheing is building momentum. Registrations continue to come in every day and 2013 looks to have record numbers. Remember early bird registrations close on the 23rd August.
The program has been expanded from previous Gatherings with the inclusion of the 'Working with Women in Men’s Health' forum on the Tuesday. For cultural and gender reasons, women are not allowed to participate in the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Male Health Convention, with the exception of the opening plenary session. This is why the alternative program has been provided for those who have registered for the whole Gathering.
The exhibition area is open to the public from Friday lunch time which is a great way for exhibitors and sponsors to promote their businessesk. There will also be a free showing of the film 'Rites of Passage' in the Auditoium.
Many networking functions have been included in the registration price this year including special appearances from Troy Cassar-Daley, Peter FitzSimons and some interesting developments surrounding the AMHF Awards Gala Dinner yet to be announced.
If you haven't already submitted for the AMHF awards we encourage you to through the official website www.workingwithmen.org.au
Sponsorship and exhibition opportunities are still available for organisations wishing to be involved in the world's  premier conference in men and family health – the 2013 National Men’s Health Gathering, Brisbane.
For more information on the National Men's Health Gathering, Brisbane 22 - 25 October please visitwww.workingwithmen.org.au

TOFS on The Great North Walk

Thursday1st August – Great North walk (part)   (Trip 119)

TOFS begin the first part of Australia’s famous Great North Walk by ferry from Circular Quay to

Woolwich wharf, then (cheat a bit) by a bus up to Hunters Hill, then a short walk to Boronia

Park where we drop down to the Lane Cove River.  The walk meanders through Buffalo

Reserve & wanders to & fro never far from the banks of the river, sometimes leading us high

above it & then dropping down to the waterside.  There will be plenty of rest stops & we should

take about 2 hours to reach the end – North Ryde RSL  for lunch.

Difficulty – some rough patches – a reasonable level of fitness will make it well worthwhile.

    Bookings to  tofsko.john70@gmail.com

Little Helper Tower

A Mums request for us to make a stand that would allow her young child to reach the bench saw the men put their heads together and come up with an adjustable tower/box into which a child could climb with safety. Here the youngster has moved from the kitchen (where mum was hoping she would help) and into the workshop to help dad. It helps to warm a Shedders heart.

ABC radio story prompts donation to Alison Homestead Mens Shed

Alison Homestead Men's Shed has received a very generous donation of equipment from a local community member. Hearing the Scott Levi ABC Regional Radio Outside Broadcast from Alison Homestead duing Men's Health week has promoted a local community member to donate equipment in his care to the Men's Shed. He felt it would be well used at the shed and contribute to the development of the Mens Shed and wellbeing of men in the local area.

The equipment has been used until recently in the construction of high quality furniture. The range of equipment includes a band saw, a large table saw, planer and dust extraction equipment. Many thanks to the donor, congratulations to the Alison Homestead Men's Shed and a thank you to Scott Levi for the support on-air.

Now the shedders are having the equpiment tested and tagged. Then they have the challenge of learing how to use the equpment, how to set up the shed for practical function. Just as well they had the power connected to the shed last week !!
